Pineville, West Virginia
At this mine located near Pineville, we installed 85 lb/lf steel rail from outside the portal down the slope and tied in to existing rail near the slope bottom. But on this project, there was not only the normal problems of long distance concrete pumping or the added dangers of underground construction, but we had to deal with the slope laying at an 18 degree angle which is about as steep as the average mountain side in Eastern Kentucky. So if you can imagine getting a mix right where you want it so you can pump it 1000' down hill and at the same time keep it dry enough to stay on a 18 degree slope so you can finish it. When you are trying to pump and palce around 100 cubic yards in a 10 hour shift.
